Switzerland at the Top of the Global Innovation Index 2022

Switzerland leads the Global Innovation Index 2022 (WIPO) for the 12th time in a row, followed by the United States, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.

Switzerland has the most high-performing institutions in the region and ranks second globally in terms of innovation outputs, ranking first in both knowledge and technology outputs and creative outputs. For a population of 8.7 million, this is quite an accomplishment!

The 2022 edition of the Global Innovation Index (GII) tracks the most recent global innovation trends against the background of an ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, slowing productivity growth and other evolving challenges. It reveals the most innovative economies in the world, ranking the innovation performance of around 132 economies while highlighting innovation strengths and weaknesses.
